Left-Congress stages protest, demand action against BJP workers

AGARTALA:

The Left-Congress workers in Kadamtala staged protest and demanded the arrest of the BJP workers who allegedly launched attack on August 30.

Kadamtala block has become the epicenter of political unrest as a fierce clash erupted between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left-Congress alliance during the swearing-in ceremony of the Rajnagar Gram Panchayat on August 30. The incident, which took place at Rajnagar Community Hall around 1 PM, saw a verbal dispute over a minor issue quickly spiral into violence, leading to injuries and damage to government property.

The swearing-in ceremony, attended by the Kadamtala Block Officer and Panchayat Officers, initially proceeded smoothly. However, following the event, a heated argument broke out between members of the BJP and CPIM, Congress, culminating in a physical altercation. Several BJP workers sustained minor injuries, prompting the intervention of Mandal leaders who rescued them from the scene.

In retaliation, the BJP swiftly lodged a police complaint against seven members of the Left-Congress alliance at the Kadamtala police station. The following day, leaders of the India Alliance filed a counter-case against eleven BJP members alleging that the BJP had orchestrated the attack under the watch of the police.

The confrontation did not end there. Left-Congress supporters, accompanied by local MLA Islam Uddin, staged a protest at the Kadamtala police station, demanding justice and accusing BJP members of premeditated violence.

As tensions mounted, the Left-Congress workers, led by Rajnagar region secretary Zahrul Haque and Congress leader Manik Lal Das, organized a joint protest march in Rajnagar Bazar. Addressing the media, they condemned the BJP’s actions and called for swift police action against the perpetrators. They also threatened to escalate the agitation with state leaders if their demands were not met.

In the aftermath of the clash, the destruction of chairs, tables, and other furniture at the Rajnagar Community Hall has further fueled public outrage, with many decrying the damage to government property.

The situation remains tense in Kadamtala, as both parties have dug in their heels, leaving the local police under pressure to resolve the matter before it escalates further.
