In a desperate outcry against the persisting electricity crisis and subsequent water service disruption, residents of Tirthamukh, located in the Karbook sub-division, have taken matters into their own hands. Frustrated by the lack of action from officials, they assembled this morning, effectively blockading the road in front of the New Gomati ADC village office on the Jatanbari-Raisyabari road.
The prolonged power outage has plunged Tirthamukh, the home of the state's pioneering hydroelectric plant, into darkness. Local inhabitants attribute this dire situation to the alleged incompetence of TSECL officials, who have failed to address the ongoing issues. The area's electrical transformer, responsible for supplying electricity, has repeatedly malfunctioned, necessitating manual intervention to restore power, only for it to fail again shortly afterward.
Compounding the residents' grievances, TSECL officials have reportedly demanded a payment of Rs 3,000 per family to install a new electric transformer, further intensifying their anger. This dissatisfaction reached its climax on Thursday morning when the road blockade caused significant inconvenience to countless commuters as vehicles came to a standstill.
Upon receiving information about the blockade, the police from Nutan Bazar police station swiftly arrived at the scene. Additionally, esteemed officials, including Anurag Debbarma, the Deputy Commissioner of the Korbuk subdivision administration, Sabendra Debbarma, the Deputy General Manager of TSECL Amarpur division, and Sachin Debbarma, the senior manager of the Jatanbari sub-division, also made their presence felt to engage with the demonstrators.
After several hours of negotiation and discussion, a resolution was finally reached. A new electrical transformer was promptly procured, leading to the lifting of the road blockade around 4 pm. However, the ten-hour disruption had already taken its toll on the common people and drivers traveling along the Jatanbari-Raisyabari road.
