Expressing his discontent over the ongoing demolition drive against the illegal occupants along the Agartala-Akhaura check post at Golchakkar area, the Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and demanded him to stop the demolition of houses by the AMC.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, the LoP Jitendra Chaudhury stated, “I have met the affected people who handed over a memorandum to me urging for alternative arrangement and compensation for the demolition of their houses. They also strongly demanded to stop the demolition drive immediately.”
“The sudden bulldozer operation is unjustified,” he said and urged the Chief Minister to arrange shelter for the evicted families immediately and take steps for their livelihood.
He said, “Stop the ongoing demolition drive until an alternative arrangement is done by the administration as the affected families have no place to live after the bulldozer operation.”
Chaudhury on Sunday last visited the families of Golchakkar area, whose houses were demolished for illegally occupying and residing in the government’s land. The Agartala Municipal Corporation in association with the local administration bulldozed around 100 dwelling houses built on 'khash' (government) land at Golchakkar on November 14 to execute an alternative national highway forcing the dwellers to live under open sky, Chaudhury said.
