Mahila Congress stages protest over rise in CAW in city

AGARTALA:

In a recent demonstration of discontent, Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress staged a protest at West Agartala Women Police Station, alleging rise in insecurities faced by women under the rule of BJP government.

Expressing grave concern, co-president Ratna Singha highlighted the surge in crimes against women across the state.

“Just two days prior, a disturbing incident unfolded in Battala area of Agartala, where two youths kidnapped and subjected a housewife to a harrowing gang-rape. Similarly, another distressing case emerged from Badharghat area, where a young man abducted and molested a minor girl, inflicting further trauma by burning her body with cigarettes. Despite the swift registration of cases at Police Station, the authorities has yet to apprehend the perpetrators even after 48 hours”, she said.

She further claimed that this alarming trend of rising crimes against women has sparked outrage among various women's advocacy groups.

In solidarity, Sadar District Women's Congress took the initiative to demand the immediate arrest of the culprits, submitting a formal deputation at Women Police Station.

The protest witnessed the participation of notable figures including Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress co-president Ratna Singha, Pradesh Mahila Congress general secretary Shreyashi Laskar, and Sadar district Mahila Congress president Rupa Roy Das, among others.
