In a significant blow to opposition parties in Tripura ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, more than 1500 voters, including members of the principal opposition party Tipra Motha, have joined the BJP. State president of the BJP, Rajib Bhattacharya, criticized the CPIM and Tipra Motha, accusing them of misappropriating funds meant for the development of indigenous people in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharya emphasized the BJP's commitment to action over mere slogans, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dedication to working for the welfare of all communities, particularly the indigenous groups. He mentioned that PM Modi has granted permanent residency to the Bru people, who had been labeled as refugees for 23 years, criticizing the previous state government for not taking initiative.
Bhattacharya further lambasted the CPIM for allegedly depriving the Bru people of their rights and commended the new BJP members for making the right decision. Accusing Tipra Motha of following in the footsteps of the CPIM, he claimed that funds allocated for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) were being misused instead of being utilized for the development of the indigenous population.
The BJP chief argued that certain political parties were engaging in dirty politics, exploiting indigenous people with slogans like Tipraland and Greater Tipraland. He asserted that these parties had failed to work for the state's indigenous people, accusing them of looting funds allocated for TTAADC.
Bipin Debbarma, the BJP state general secretary, provided details of the joining program held in three locations, including Jiulcherra Bru resettlement camp, Dhalai District Party office, and Kachucherra under Dhalai District of Tripura. He highlighted that over 1500 voters had joined the BJP, distancing themselves from Tipra Motha and CPIM.
