Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday interacted with the guardians of the student who are standard in the violence hit Manipur and said that his counterpart N Biren Singh had assured of safety and security of the students of Tripura in Manipur.
Dr. Saha met the guardians here at his government residence on Friday. He said that the government is in constant touch with the Manipur government and as part of this he had also dialed Manipur CM N Biren Singh.
Around 150 students from Tripura are currently studying in Manipur as per government records. They are mostly studying in medical, dental and agriculture colleges, he said, adding that the students are all safe on their hostels and they are covered by CRPF jawans. The Manipur Chief Minister also assured if security of the students of the state, he told reporters on Friday.
The chief minister in his tweeter handle on Friday evening stated that the Tripura government is mulling to evacuate the students back to Tripura. Although the Manipur government had assured of all forms of assistance in need to the students of Tripura, the tweet reads.
Meanwhile, the state government has launched helpline numbers and a WhatsApp number for support and to coordinate with residents of Tripura in connection with the prevailing Manipur situation round the clock.
“We have launched a 24×7 helpline number and spoken to a doctor from Tripura who is serving as a faculty member at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal,” the CM said, adding that the RIMS faculty member collected phone numbers of the office bearers of a Tripura student body.
