Mayor Dipak Majumdar, in response to complaints about the sluggish progress in the construction of new shed houses in the MB Tilla market, conducted a surprise visit, unveiling widespread irregularities in the ongoing work.
Mayor Majumdar, accompanied by members of the market committee and local councilors, inspected the construction site after reports surfaced regarding the slow pace of the project. Expressing his disappointment during a media briefing, he revealed that the work, intended to be completed before the upcoming Durga Puja, was not meeting the expected timeline.
The mayor asserted that the construction project had received the ceremonial blessing through a Bhoomi Puja conducted by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, signaling the initiation of the development. However, he emphasized that the current pace of work did not align with the initial plans.
Addressing the media, Mayor Majumdar stated, "I visited the market after receiving complaints about the slow pace of work. Unfortunately, I witnessed the work not being done on time. The Chief Minister himself initiated the project with the Bhoomi Puja, and it was anticipated to be completed before the next Durga Puja. However, if the current situation persists, we may consider changing the construction company in the coming months."
He further expressed concerns about the inconvenience faced by small traders selling vegetables along the Sevak Sangh area in MB Tila. The mayor assured that discussions with the market committee would be initiated to provide these traders with new sheds in the near future.
The mayor's visit aimed to assess the construction progress, address concerns raised by the public, and ensure that the project aligns with the planned timeline. The possibility of changing the construction company serves as a stern warning to contractors to adhere to the agreed-upon schedule for the timely completion of the market construction.
