In an effort to combat the rising mosquito infestation in Agartala, Mayor Dipak Majumdar of AMC conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of a drain on the canal at Akhaura Road. The Mayor, accompanied by Corporation Commissioner Shailas Kumar Yadav and various officials, expressed concerns about the increased mosquito nuisance in the city and outlined plans to address the issue through the drainage system.
During the inspection on Friday, Mayor Dipak Majumdar revealed that residents had lodged complaints regarding the surge in mosquito activity in Agartala. To alleviate this problem, the proposed solution involves constructing a drain by blocking the canal on Akhaura Road. The Mayor emphasized the importance of normalizing the drainage system to prevent water accumulation in various parts of the city, a condition conducive to mosquito breeding.
Mayor Majumdar articulated his optimism that the mosquito nuisance would significantly decrease once the drainage system is back to normal. He suggested that cutting the dam created in the canal during the drain construction would restore the water drainage system in the capital and reduce the mosquito infestation. Acknowledging the inconvenience faced by residents during the construction period, he urged their cooperation, assuring them that the project aims to permanently alleviate mosquito-related issues.
The Mayor's inspection revealed that the works department and engineers of the concerned agency have decided to make adjustments to the dam created during the drain construction. By doing so, they anticipate an improvement in the drainage system in Agartala over the next two to three months.
Addressing the densely populated areas surrounding the canal, Mayor Majumdar stressed the necessity of constructing drains with dams to protect homes from potential damage. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the public during this significant construction project, emphasizing the importance of maintaining both a functioning drainage system and preventing water logging on roads during the monsoon season.
As part of the ongoing efforts to control mosquito infestation, AMC utilizes spray machines and dedicated personnel for the systematic spraying of affected areas. Mayor Deepak Majumdar remains hopeful that, upon completion of the drain construction, residents of Agartala will experience a permanent relief from the persistent mosquito menace.
