Mayor Dipak Majumder tabled the Agartala Municipal Corporation's (AMC) budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, featuring a comprehensive outlay of Rs 416.74 crore and an anticipated deficit of Rs 76.75 lakh. The budget presentation took place at the AMC conference hall on Thursday.
Mayor Majumder emphasized that the budget was meticulously crafted to enhance services and amenities for the residents of Agartala, the capital city of Tripura. He assured that the projected deficit, amounting to a nominal Rs 76.75 lakh, would be mitigated by augmenting revenue collection through avenues like wealth tax and trade license fees. Importantly, he assured that this strategy would not impose any additional burden on taxpayers.
Reflecting on the preceding fiscal year, Mayor Majumder highlighted the AMC's commendable performance, achieving 99.86% of its revenue target and 99.61% of its expenditure target for 2023-24. The total revenue and capital income stood at Rs 396.46 crore, with a total expenditure of Rs 397.01 crore, resulting in a modest shortfall of Rs 55.22 lakh.
Looking ahead, the AMC plans to boost its income and expenditure estimates by 4.92% and 4.97%, respectively, for the upcoming year compared to the last fiscal period. The proposed income for 2024-25 is Rs 415.97 crore, and the envisaged expenditure is Rs 416.74 crore. Mayor Majumder outlined key focus areas, including infrastructure enhancement, sanitation, water supply, street lighting, solid waste management, healthcare, education, and social welfare initiatives within the city.
Moreover, he detailed prominent projects and schemes slated for the next year, such as the Smart City Mission, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), the Swachh Bharat Mission, the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
