Mayor Dipak Majumdar of Agartala Municipal Corporation took proactive measures to address congestion in the city by personally overseeing an eviction operation in GB Bazar this morning.
Following the successful eviction drive, Mayor Majumdar held discussions with local businessmen, urging them to accelerate the construction of a drainage system.
The Corporation's planned eviction campaign, carried out as announced, led to the removal of unlawfully erected shops along both sides of the GB Bazar road. Mayor Majumdar emphasized that these establishments had encroached upon government-owned land and had received prior notices for removal or vacation.
During the inspection, Mayor Majumdar disclosed that numerous warnings had been issued to the illegal occupants but many had chosen to disregard them. He underscored the urgency of prompt road construction, a priority set by the current government. Consequently, the Corporation has deemed it necessary to clear not only the 48 temporary shops but also the older establishments within the city.
Starting tomorrow, the drainage project within the market area will commence, marking a significant stride towards the planned expansion and decongestion of Agartala city.
