In the wake of the devastating fire that engulfed Battala market on Sunday night, Agartala Municipal Corporation is taking proactive steps to rejuvenate the affected area with Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder spearheading the initiative.
Mayor Majumder accompanied by the Corporation Commissioner, local corporators and other officials revisited the charred remains of the market on Wednesday.
140 to 150 shops were reduced to ashes in the destructive blaze leaving many businessmen in distress.
Undertaking the restoration as a priority, Mayor Majumder announced plans to swiftly facilitate the resumption of business for the affected traders. The Corporation has received a comprehensive list of the affected businessmen which is currently undergoing verification.
Mayor Majumder envisions the transformation of Battala market into a modern hub and discussions with the market committee are already underway. A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared in collaboration with the market committee to outline the steps needed for the market's modernization.
Highlighting the importance of cooperation, Mayor Majumder expressed optimism that the market committee would collaborate seamlessly with the city corporation in this ambitious endeavor.
“The work has started so that the affected traders of Battala market can start their business quickly. The list of affected businessmen has already been submitted to AMC. The list of names will be verified. Battala market will be converted into a modern market in discussion with the market committee. DPR will be prepared to make the Battala market a modern market in consultation with the market committee”, he said
He said that efforts to clear the rubble from the damaged market are being executed with urgency, resembling a wartime operation. The Corporation is determined to expedite the rehabilitation process and restore normalcy to the lives of those affected by the fire.
