Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday pitched for more development of the Kokborok language and advocated for inclusion of the language in the eight schedule of the constitution of India.
Tripura on Sunday celebrated 47th Kokborok Day. The main function was held here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan after a colorful procession held on Sunday morning.
Addressing the gathering of Kokborok speaking people in the main function, the minister said that the present government has taken multiple measures to promote the languages of the tribal communities of the state of Tripura including Kokborok language.
“The Kokborok language should be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution as it will ensure the language’s proper development”, Nath said, adding that Kokborok language has been introduced from primary to university level for its proper development. Around 10,000 students are studying in Kokborok language in the state, he added.
He said that Tripura Central University has introduced PhD course in the Kokborok language and currently four students are pursuing PhD in the language in the varsity.
