The state agriculture and farmers welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday inaugurated the state level celebration of international mother language day here in the function at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and said that mother languages still has its importance in the era of globalization.
Addressing the gathering in the function, the minister said that mother language is the identity of any nation and a nation can never prosper by neglecting its mother language.
“A child first learns his or her mother tongue from his mother. People can easily express their thoughts through mother tongue. So today everyone should take an oath to enrich other languages by enriching their own mother tongue,” the minister said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also introduced a new national education policy with emphasis on mother tongue. The state government has also taken efforts to protect all the languages of the state by giving equal importance to them, he added.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumder addressed the gathering and said that Mother Language Day is celebrated with the aim of protecting and promoting the mother tongue of every ethnic group. The present government is also working to enrich the languages of the various ethnic groups in the state, he said.
Former vice-chancellor of Tripura Central University Dr Padmashri. Arunoday Saha said, mother tongue is one of the ways to express people's thoughts and feelings. Just as there is no substitute for mother's milk, there is no substitute for mother tongue, he added.
