Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chairs 15th meeting of state road safety council

AGARTALA:

The state road and transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday chaired the 15th meeting of the State Road Safety Council here at Agartala and said that the government is contemplating to ensure zero road accidents through generating more awareness.

The minister said that according to the government data, every year 700-750 road accidents are happening in the state, out of which 200-250 are death cases. Government is putting utmost effort to curb the road accidents and bring down the death cases, he added.

The government has taken various measures to ensure road safety and as part of this the ‘Good Samaritan’ was launched, where awards are announced to be granted to good samaritan who has saved the life of a victim of a fatal accident (involving a motor vehicle) by administering immediate assistance and rushing to hospital, he said.

Apart from this, the transport department has recently provided eight interceptor vehicles to the police department for deploying those in all the eight districts of the state, he said, adding that the SP traffic has also taken various measures to control the traffic movement.
