Minister Sushanta Chowdhury rubbishes Manik Sarkar’s remark on Promo fest, says Left front fails to promote Tripura tourism

AGARTALA:

Reacting sharply on the remarks of the former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar over the Tripura tourism’s promo fest held recently across the state, the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday said that the previous Left front government had failed to promote the Tripura tourism.

“Manik Sarkar in his statement on Friday last questioned the expenditure made by the Tripura tourism for organizing the promo fest,” Chowdhury said, adding that a section of people could not digest the growth of the Tripura tourism at the present stage.

Figuring out the tourist footfalls in the state and comparing it with the with the previous Left front government, Chowdhury said that during the Left regime the total tourist footfalls including domestic and foreign during the Left regime was 20,48,780, while the revenue income rested at Rs 15,52,31,000 from the year 2013 to 2018.

“From 2018 as of now the state recorded 26,19,790 tourists and the revenue income rested at Rs 31,25,23,000,” Chowdhury added.

The minister claimed that the Promo fest held recently in the state received massive response from the tourists and the local people, where the festivals were held. During the promo fest, people urged the government to organize such festivals on a regular basis annually, he said, adding that the promo fest generated massive income for the local people.

He said, “The present government is very positive towards the growth of the tourism sector which has the potential to grow the state’s economy and generate alternate livelihood opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state.”
