Remembering the late BJP MLA Surajit Dutta, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday underlined the role of the late MLA and said that people of Tripura will never forget former Minister and MLA Surajit Dutta, who passed away recently.
The BJP on Tuesday organised a meeting in remembrance of the late MLA here at Agartala Rabindra Bhavan. Chief Minister Dr Saha accompanied by his cabinet colleagues and party leaders were present in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Saha said that MLA Surajit Dutta, who was also known as Sunu Da dedicated his entire life to public service. He said, “Sunu da was the strength of the party as he played a crucial role in the party functionaries.”
“Amidst poor health conditions, he attended the Assembly as well as party programmes too. Today he is not physically present, but he is always with us mentally," he added.
Surajit Datta passed away at 71 during treatment at a hospital in Kolkata after a prolonged illness. He served as legislator from Ramnagar constituency since 1988 on a Congress ticket, except in 2013 when he lost to the CPM. He joined BJP ahead of the 2018 polls and won from the constituency twice on the party ticket.
