The Rajya Sabha MP and the former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday castigated the CPI-M party and the then Left front government and also the then congress party at the Centre to allege that the indigenous tribes of Tripura were neglected at large previously.
Participating in a discussion on the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2022, passed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Deb said, “PM Narendra Modi led government has worked to improve the lives of the people of tribal community in Tripura and gave them their fundamental rights.”
Underlining the achievements of the BJP government in Tripura over meeting the issues of the indigenous tribes, Deb said, “It was under the leadership of Modi ji that one Darlong community was included in the Tripura tribes. Secondly, the union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman ji had announced Rs. 1300 Crore for the development of the TTAADC and the fund was later sanctioned by the ADB.”
“The long pending issues with the Bru refugees from Mizoram in Tripura was also mitigated under the leadership of PM Modi, who brought a package of Rs. 600 crore to give rights to the Reang refugees and resettled them in the state,” he informed the upper house of the parliament.
He attacked the Congress party for neglecting the tribals and their welfare. Deb said, Narendra Modi-led government has changed the approach towards the tribals and is working with conviction towards their welfare.
“The Congress used the indigenous tribes across the country as their vote bank and deprived them at large,” he added.
