Tripura Lok Sabha MP Kriti Devi Debbarman on Monday met the Union Home Minister Amiot Shah at Delhi and discussed series of issues related to the empowerment of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
During the meeting MP Kriti Devi Debbarman placed a letter to the Union Home Minister and demanded to place the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the floor of Parliament that would empower the TTAADC under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
“The 125th Amendment (with all its proposals from the Standing Committee) holds tremendous potential to enhance the administrative and financial autonomy of the Sixth Schedule areas, thus ensuring more effective governance and development,” the letter reads.
She wrote, “These amendments are crucial for addressing the unique challenges faced by our region, Including socio-economic development, cultural preservation, and local self- governance. By empowering the district and territorial councils, we will be taking a significant step towards fostering greater regional harmony and progress.”
She however demanded the Union Home Minister to expedite the process and bring the 125th Amendment before Parliament at the earliest opportunity.
Meanwhile, the founder of the ruling BJP’s alliance partner TIPRA Motha Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman, who accompanied the MP Kriti Devi Debbarman stated, “Met the Hon Home Minister of India along with my sister today. We discussed the tiprasa accord, patrolling of the border with Bangladesh, implementation of the 125th amendment in the Council areas. The Home minister will be visiting Tripura during this month and is keen on resolving issues related to the indigenous people of the state and region.”
