Tripura along with the rest of the nation on Thursday observed the National Voters’ Day to encourage youth participation in the electoral process of the state.
Chief Secretary J K Sinha inaugurated the programme here at Agartala Rabindra Bhavan on Thursday. The theme of this year's National Voter's Day is 'Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure'.
Inaugurating the program, Chief Secretary JK Sinha said that the main objective of National Voter's Day celebration is to encourage the youth community to vote. Today is a very important day for every enfranchised citizen of our country and state, he said adding that polling process is always done in a peaceful and festive mood in the state.
On the occasion, the Chief Secretary urged the people of the state to fearlessly vote and participate in the election process.
State Election Commissioner Sharadindu Chowdhury among others spoke on the occasion. Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal delivered the welcome address.
On the occasion of National Voter's Day, 10 new voters were given Epic Cards. Besides, Padma Shri Deepa Karmakar, Paraswimmer Sameer Barman, eminent transgender Nupur Chakraborty, Mr. India Tourism-2022 Mithun Debbarma, Femina Miss Tripura Rittika Majumder and Subrata Ganga, retired Deputy Director of Parks and Land Conservation Department Divyangajan were felicitated on the occasion.
