A delegation led by the North East Frontier Railway General Manager (Operations) Sunil Kumar Jha met Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha at his official residence on Tuesday and said that the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project work connecting Agartala with Bangladesh and Kolkata through rail network will be completed by the October this year.
Series of issues on expansion of the rail network were discussed during the meeting with the Chief Minister.
The general manager of the NFR assured the Chief Minister that the State Government's proposal to increase the number of coaches in local demo trains including running additional passenger trains on the Agartala-Dharmanagar route will be considered by the Railway Authority.
He said that the process of conversion of rail track from single to double-track is commenced and necessary steps have been taken to complete preliminary survey work for conversion of 243 km stretched railway track from Chandranath in Haflong area to Sabroom in South Tripura via Agartala to double track by June 2024.
The Agartala-Guwahati intercity train services including Agartala-Mumbai, Agartala-Jammu and Agartala-Puri express trains are under consideration by the railway authorities, he said Chief Minister Dr. Saha. During the meeting he also informed that the proposal to construct three alternative rail links – 41.75 km long Pecharthal-Kailashahar-Dharmannagar, 178.72 km long Dharmanagar to Belonia, and 2.12 km long Belonia to Feni is awaiting approval from the Railway Board.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister on Tuesday drew the attention of the railway authorities to keep the railway stations clean and provide adequate lighting and cleanliness in the railway tunnels. The Chief Minister expressed his concern about the smuggling of drugs through railways and advised the railway authorities to take necessary steps to deploy adequate security personnel on the railways.
