In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended nine individuals and seized narcotics worth Rs 30 lakh from a parcel van of a train at Agartala Railway Station late Monday night.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station, Tapas Das, stated that the operation was conducted based on a tip-off regarding a large consignment of contraband hidden inside a goods-laden container.
"Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel searched the parcel van and recovered 1,500 bottles of Eskuf, a banned cough syrup. Following this seizure, we arrested nine persons in connection with the case," said Das.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Amit Kumar Srivastav from Bihar, Chintu Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Suman Mia from Agartala, Chotan Deb from Khayerpur, Aktar Hossein and Chan Mia from Khowai District, Rajib Sutradhar from Agartala, Majarul Islam from Bishalgarh in Sepahijala District, and Prasenjit Das from Ampi Nagar.
The police have registered a case and presented the accused before the court, seeking their remand for further investigation.
