Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder on Friday clarified that the AMC has refrained from the decision of building a parking space using the ground of Agartala Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala the Mayor said that the school ground was one of the places that was discussed in a meeting a few days ago, but the school authorities did not consent to the proposal.
In response to the allegations made by some groups that the school ground would be destroyed for parking purposes, the Mayor said that some vested interests are spreading rumors by saying that the school ground would be converted into a parking lot and the school would lose its playground, which is nothing but a conspiracy to politicize the issue.
He also informed that the state government had recently sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the construction of a boundary wall and a water drainage system for the school, which shows its commitment to the welfare of the students and the staff. He said that the corporation and the state government are working together to make Agartala a smart and modern city, and appealed to the people to support their efforts.
