North East Japan Caravian begins at Agartala for 2-day

AGARTALA:

For the first time in Agartala, the embassy of Japan in India jointly with the Japan Foundation in Delhi and the Indian Council for Cultural Relation, North East organised two days long North East Japan Caravian. The caravian has begun here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan from Saturday.

Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs department Dr P K Chakraborty has inaugurated the programme in presence of the Director of ICCR, NER Munish Singh, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan in India Takashi Kobayashi and Director of Japan Foundation in Delhi Koji Sato.

Addressing the gathering of representatives of Japan and India, Secretary of ICA department Dr P K Chakraborty said that there are many cultural, traditional and dietary similarities between the people of North Eastern India and the people of Japan. The purpose of such programs is to develop a sense of mutual brotherhood through the exchange of language, culture and traditions of the two countries, he said.

It is to be noted that on the first day of this two-day event, along with the cultural performances of the artists of the state, cultural groups from Japan presented their performances. Moreover, two animation films were also screened.

On the occasion of the two-day event, along with cosplay shows and workshops, judo and karate demonstrations, exhibitions of traditional Japanese textiles, Japanese calligraphy, bamboo products and origami were organized at the Rabindra Centenary Building premises. The organizers have appealed to the youth of the state to participate in the event in larger numbers.
