North-Eastern Coconut Farmers’ meet held at Agartala

AGARTALA:

The Coconut Development Board organized its North-Eastern Coconut Farmers’ meet for the first time here at Agartala on Friday to encourage the farmers of the state towards coconut farming and focused on widespread commercialization of coconut products.

The state agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated the event here at Agartala Agartala Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in presence of the MLA of Manu Assembly constituency Mailafru Mog, officials of the coconut board and state officers.

Addressing the gathering of farmers here in the meet, the minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the Coconut Development Board's nursery occupying 22 hectares of land at Hichachara in South Tripura has targeted the production of about 1,20,000 coconut seedlings from this year.

He however encouraged the state’s farmers towards coconut farming and underlined the possibility of larger commercialisation of the coconut products. He said that initiatives will be taken to set up a regional coconut nursery under the initiative of the state Horticulture and Land Conservation department.

The coconut farmers’ meet held on Friday mainly stressed on the significance of coconut farming and possibilities of widespread commercialisation in the state of Tripura and doubling up the farmers’ income.

UP govt brings fresh measures after stampede deaths in Mahakumbh Mela

A day after at least 30 people were killed in a predawn stampede at the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government has enforced stricter measures for better crowd management and safety of devotees as it restricted vehicular movement, cancelled VIP passes, increased security deployment, and ended needless restrictions on the pontoon bridges that connect the mela city.
