Rangacherra, a small village in the West Tripura district under Mohanpur R D Block has embarked on a journey to become the state’s first solar powered village.
The state power minister Ratan Lal Nath escorted by senior officials of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) paid an inspection visit to the village on Thursday and said that 600 families of the village shall remain dependent on solar energy for their daily power requirements.
In absence of solar power, the villagers will be able to use the traditional grid power provided by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, he added. He said that Rangacherra will be the state’s first solar powered village.
Rangacherra – a village that once struggled with irregular electricity, parched lands, and an uncertain future has now become a beacon of climate sustainability, powered by the sun. With collective efforts and government support, the village installed a solar grid, ensuring consistent electricity for all households.
