One held with cannabis worth Rs 8 lakh from Agartala Railway Station

AGARTALA:

The Government Railway Police have arrested one person and seized cannabis worth more than Rs 8 lakh which was supposed to be smuggled to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal via Kanchanjunga Express from Agartala Railway Station.

Speaking on the issue, Government Railway Police Officer-In-Charge Sanjit Sen said that late yesterday evening they received secret information that one person was coming to the parcel office in Agartala Railway Station to send some cartons containing contraband.

"After receiving the information, we rushed to the spot along with the Railway Police Force and seized six large cardboard boxes which were filled with filters and mixer grinders. Upon inspection, we found them to be filled with cannabis. We detained the person, identified as Uttam Kumar Pal, who was intending to smuggle the drugs to New Jalpaiguri via Kanchanjunga Express," said the officer.

He added that the seized cannabis weighed approximately 319 kgs, with an estimated value of more than Rs 8 lakh.
