Commemorating the 77th Independence Day, Agartala witnessed the spirited Open Cross Country race today. The event, orchestrated by the Department of Youth and Sports Affairs in conjunction with the Tripura Sports Council and Tripura Athletics Association, marked a significant celebration of athleticism and camaraderie.
Amidst an atmosphere of excitement, 40 determined participants took their place at the starting line for the 5 km boys' category, while 29 young talents readied themselves for the 3 km girls' category. The event was inaugurated with patriotic fervor as Youth Affairs and Sports Department Director, Satyabrata Nath, unfurled the flag, officially commencing the race.
The spirited race embarked from the grounds of Umakanta Academy, navigating through diverse routes within the city's embrace, before returning to its starting point at Umakanta field for a triumphant finish.
In a display of remarkable athletic prowess, Saurabh Hossain clinched the first position in the men's competition, followed closely by Akash Nath and Mobarak Hossain securing the second and third positions respectively. On the women's front, Laxhirani Tripura claimed the top spot, with Anamika Debnath and Moumita Shil seizing the second and third ranks.
The crowning moments of victory were celebrated with an awards ceremony. Director of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, Satyabrata Nath, Deputy Director Biplap Dutta, Director of the Khelo India Excellence Center, Rajendra Pathania, and other esteemed dignitaries had the privilege of bestowing the deserving winners with their well-earned accolades.
