Patanjali boosts Oil Palm expansion in Tripura

AGARTALA:

In a strategic push to enhance oil palm cultivation in Tripura, Patanjali Foods has announced its plan to cultivate approximately 10,000 hectares of oil palm over the next two years. The initiative aims to strengthen the region’s agricultural economy and make Tripura a key player in India’s oil palm production.

Ashok Kumar Singh, North East Region Head of Patanjali Foods, emphasized the company’s commitment to the project, highlighting the establishment of a dedicated infrastructure. "We have acquired 30 hectares of land, which will serve as a comprehensive hub for oil palm cultivation. This includes setting up a processing mill, a nursery for oil palm plants, a demo plantation, and a farmer training center. These steps will ensure that local farmers receive the necessary technical know-how and hands-on training," Singh stated.

He further noted that the project is set to commence within the next three months, capitalizing on Tripura’s favorable climate for oil palm cultivation. "Patanjali is deeply invested in expanding oil palm cultivation, not only in Tripura but across the Northeast. This initiative will provide employment opportunities and enhance agricultural productivity in the state," he added.

As part of the expansion efforts, a workshop on oil palm cultivation was conducted, drawing participation from several farmers across different districts under Patanjali’s jurisdiction. Experts shared insights on plantation techniques, sustainable practices, and market prospects, making the session highly beneficial for the attendees.

The event saw the presence of key officials, including Apurba Roy, IAS, Secretary of Agriculture; Dr. Phani Bhusan Jamatia, Director of Agriculture; and Dipak Das, Director of Horticulture. Senior representatives from Patanjali Foods, including Subhash Bhattacharjee (NE Advisor) and Ayan Sarkar (Tripura State Head), also took part in the discussions, reinforcing the company’s long-term vision for oil palm development in Tripura.
