The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Wednesday organized a protest rally to press for a probe into alleged financial irregularities involving industrialist Gautam Adani and to urge the Centre, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to address the prolonged crisis in Manipur.
The protest march, which aimed to reach the Raj Bhavan, was intercepted near the Circuit House in Agartala by security personnel. A delegation from the party later submitted a memorandum to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, echoing the nationwide call by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for similar demonstrations in various states.
Speaking on the occasion, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha said, “This protest is part of a nationwide campaign under the direction of the AICC. We have submitted a deputation to the Governor, highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive investigation into financial scams, fraud, and money laundering allegedly involving Gautam Adani. We have also raised concerns over the ongoing Manipur crisis, which remains unresolved even after 18 months.”
Saha criticized Prime Minister Modi for his continued silence on the Manipur issue, where lives have been lost, properties destroyed, and communities displaced.
“Despite the devastation in Manipur, PM Modi has neither visited the state nor addressed the crisis in Parliament. This silence is unacceptable. Additionally, we demand decisive action against Gautam Adani to restore public trust. The nation’s financial condition is deteriorating, and ordinary citizens are bearing the brunt of it. Through these protests, we hope to compel the Centre to act on both fronts,” he said.
The Congress has called for a unified response to these pressing issues, accusing the government of neglecting its responsibilities.
