Tripura Congress President Asish Kumar Saha on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha urging him to inform the citizens of the Tripura about what decisions were taken in the NEC Plenary Session for the development of Tripura and this region.
In the letter, PCC Chief Saha said that the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council was held in Agartala on 20th and 21st December.
“This is the second time since 2008 that the NEC plenary session has been held in Tripura. The NEC has been playing an important role in accelerating the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the princely states of the North Eastern region, including Sikkim. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the NEC on 7th November 1972 with the aim of implementing planned and integrated projects for the rapid development of this backward region. This was a groundbreaking step by the Congress party in the development of the North Eastern region”, he said.
Saha said that on the basis of the NEC, the central government formed a separate ministry in September 2001, named Development of North Eastern Region, to further accelerate the overall development of this region.
“After the formation of the NEC, all the large-scale permanent projects that have been established in this region were done before 1998. For example, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS (1972), Dr. B. Barua Cancer Institute, BBC. (1974), North Eastern Power Corporation, NEEPCO (1976), North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology, RERIST (1984), etc”, he said.
Saha pointed out that the 72nd plenary session of NEC has ended today for three days but still the people of the state and the people of the northeast do not know what decisions were taken in the meeting for the development of Tripura and this region, what projects were taken and what plans were adopted.
“The decisions of the state government, NEC or the central government have not been informed to the citizens. I hope that you will inform the people of the state about the decisions of the plenary session and the results of this meeting through a press release or press conference. Incidentally, the people of the state also did not know what demands the Chief Minister of Tripura made for the development of the state in the plenary session of NEC. Citizens have the right to know what they got out of this 'Rajsuya' plenary session organized at the expense of citizens”, he said.
Saha also urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the normal life of citizens is not disrupted due to the movement of VIPs in the future.
He also demanded an apology from the state government for not inviting journalist in the session.
