A major drug bust occurred late Wednesday night as Tripura Police seized banned cough syrups valued at Rs 12 lakh from an abandoned room at the Khakchang Residential Complex in Nandan Nagar, Agartala.
Prompt action by alert locals led to the discovery, highlighting community vigilance in curbing illegal activities.
According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Subrata Barman of the New Capital Complex, residents grew suspicious after noticing individuals unloading sacks into a previously unused room, which had been left abandoned after its earlier use for construction material storage.
"Thanks to the vigilance of the locals, we were tipped off about the suspicious activity. When our team arrived, we found 35 sacks filled with approximately 6,000 bottles of banned cough syrup," SDPO Barman explained.
Though the individuals had fled before the police arrived, the seizure of such a large quantity of contraband highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region. With the market value estimated at Rs 12 lakh, authorities are now focused on identifying those responsible for the illicit operation.
