The Union Minister of Development of North East Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia reviewed developmental works in Tripura in presence of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday here in the conference hall of the secretariat and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to make the North East region – the growth engine of the country.
“North Eastern states have seen massive development in every sector including road, rail, air, telecommunication due to the PM Modi’s utmost effort,” Scindia said, adding that Pm Modi is determined to make the North East region – the country’s growth engine.
He said, “In the last 65 years, 10,000 km of National Highways were built in the country in terms of road communication. But during the last 10 years of the current central government, 5,500 kilometres of National Highways have been constructed. In terms of rail services earlier only 1 state in North Eastern region had rail connectivity facility. At present 3 states of North Eastern region have rail connectivity facility. Currently 19 projects are in progress for development of railway services in North Eastern states. 81 thousand crores will be spent on it.”
“The central government has set a target to expand rail connectivity to the rest of the states in the northeastern region by the next 2-3 years. The railway tracking performance has also increased manifold as compared to the past days. Besides, Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Udaipur railway stations of Tripura state are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station.”
He said that the Ministry of DoNER is also providing all cooperation to include North Eastern states including Tripura in the map of development and progress.
From 2004 to 2014, the central government's budget for the North Eastern states was Tk 24 thousand crores. At present, due to the sincere efforts of the Prime Minister, the budget of the North Eastern states has increased almost four times to Tk 1 lakh 3 thousand crores, he said, adding that there was a time when the budget for the Northeast was Rs 24,000 crore, but after 2014, it is approximately Rs 1,03,000 crore, which is four times higher.
In the civil aviation sector, there were only nine airports in the region, with two states lacking airports altogether in the last 65 years. Today, the Northeast has 17 airports. Such rapid development has occurred across every sector in the Northeast, he said.
The minister highlighted that Tripura has experienced significant progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
“The GSDP has reached approximately Rs 90,000 crore, and the per capita GDP has increased by 15%. The per capita income in our state is around Rs 1,06,000. From 2004 to 2014, during the Congress government, Tripura received Rs 8,900 crore as tax devolution. After PM Modi took office, in the last 10 years, this amount increased to Rs 47,160 crore, marking a 5% rise. In terms of Grant-in-Aid, from 2004 to 2014, Tripura received Rs 31,285 crore, while from 2014 to 2024, it rose to Rs 62,000 crore,” he told reporters.
Under the 4G saturation project, the Union Minister said that around 119 towers will be set up in Tripura, of which 90 have already been installed, with completion expected by June.
“Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura are covered under one package. Around Rs 500 crore will be allocated to these three states for the 4G saturation projects,” he added.

From the eight northeastern states, only the Tripura tableau will be displayed this year during the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi, officials said on Thursday.
