Police constable among 2 held with heroin worth Rs 25 Cr in North Tripura

In a major crackdown against drugs, the police of Damcherra police station on Monday night seized over 2 kilograms of heroin and held 2 persons including a police constable in connection to the case.

The incident took place on Monday night, while the police of Damcherra police station acted on a tip off and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number – TR 01 BV 0595 and conducted a search in the vehicle to seize at least 177 plastic cases, where heroin weighing over 2 Kgs of heroin was found.

The detained were identified by the police as Sahidul Rahaman (35), a constable of Tripura Police, and another Jasimuddin (36), a resident of Sepahijala district.

The superintendent of police of North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty said that the vehicle was heading towards Sonamura before it was intercepted. He however said that this was the biggest seizure of drugs in the state in the recent past.

Meanwhile, sharing the information in his social media handle on Tuesday, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, "Tripura police is leaving no stone unturned to achieve the goal of NashaMuktaBharat by Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi."
