In a dedicated event commemorating Linemen's Day at the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) corporate office, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath underscored the pivotal role played by linemen and helpers in the operational framework of the power sector.
During the Power Protection Week, Minister Nath extended his heartfelt wishes for the well-being of linemen, helpers, and employees at all levels within the power corporation. He emphasized the importance of their contributions to the day-to-day functions of TSECL.
In his address, Minister Nath urged all officials and workers to exercise heightened caution and adhere strictly to safety measures in the electricity service domain. Emphasizing the need for safeguarding electricity workers, he called for collective efforts to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state.
Highlighting safety concerns, the power minister drew attention to instances where power workers in the state had tragically lost their lives or suffered permanent injuries due to non-compliance with electrical safety protocols. He cited a recent incident at GB Hospital where a worker had to undergo amputation to save his life.
Minister Nath stressed the imperative of following safety guidelines to avert such tragic occurrences; emphasizing that adherence to these measures could potentially save the lives of electricity workers. Expressing concern over the exposure of essential workers to severe dangers without adequate protection, he noted the potential disruption to power services during adverse weather conditions.
Appealing to all power workers, including linemen and helpers, Minister Nath urged them to prioritize their safety. He underscored the vital role of the electricity sector in delivering essential services, noting that even a brief interruption in power supply could lead to significant public hardships.
"Electricity is a cornerstone of the service industry. While other government departments may temporarily close without causing much disruption, a mere few minutes of electricity service interruption can result in considerable challenges for the public. Hospitals cease functioning, factories halt production, and the daily lives of the public are jeopardized. It is crucial for everyone to recognize and prioritize the safety of electricity workers," he emphasized.
