Pratima Bhoumik resigns as MLA after landslide victory

AGARTALA:

A Day ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of legislators, the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik on Wednesday tendered her resignation and said, “on the advice of her party leaderships, she tendered her resignation from the post of MLA in Dhanpur seat.”

Bhoumik secured a landslide victory with 42.25 % votes against her CPI(M) counterpart Kaushik Chanda from Dhanpur assembly constituency in the recently concluded assembly election.

Bhoumik was accompanied by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath, while she tendered her resignation with the pro-tem speaker of the state legislative assembly Binay Bhushan Das.

After resigning from MLA post Bhoumik on Wednesday said that on the advice of her party leadership, she tendered her resignation from the post of MLA in Dhanpur seat.

“The BJP central leadership had directed me to contest in the Dhanpur assembly constituency despite being a member of Lok Sabha and Union Minister of State,” she added.
