Pratima Bhoumik, the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, strongly criticized the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM], accusing them of obstructing access to government benefits for the general public during their tenure in Tripura. Bhoumik asserted that only ardent CPIM supporters were granted access to government privileges, while others were compelled to seek assistance exclusively through the CPIM party office.
Addressing a gathering in Nalchar on Wednesday as part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting awareness about various welfare schemes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhoumik emphasized the initiative's goal of reaching marginalized sections of society to ensure their participation in schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Mudra Loan, Kisan Samman Nidhi, among others.
Commending the economic achievements of the Modi government, Bhoumik expressed confidence in the Prime Minister's vision to elevate India to the third-largest global economy by 2030. Highlighting India's ascent to the fifth position in the global economic ranking over the past nine years, she credited this progress to Modi's leadership.
Drawing a sharp contrast between the Modi government's approach and the previous CPIM regime in Tripura, Bhoumik asserted that the common people were voiceless and lacked representation during the Left era. She criticized the inaccessibility and aloofness of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister during that time, stating that the Prime Minister, in contrast, actively engages with the people of Tripura, particularly those from marginalized communities, addressing their concerns directly.
Bhoumik further alleged that the CPIM, during its tenure, exhibited discriminatory practices in implementing housing schemes, favoring only those loyal to their party. She contended that people had limited freedom to approach the Panchayat Pradhan for the scheme, resulting in a denial of deserved facilities. According to her, the CPIM monopolized government privileges, depriving people of their rightful entitlements.
