Barely three months after the sensational murder of a club secretary in Agartala, Tripura Police have arrested the prime accused, identified as Raju Barman from Assam. He was brought to Agartala today.
Bharat Ratna Sangha Club is one of the biggest social club in Tripura.
Earlier on April 30, the secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha Club located in the Usha Bazar area in Agartala, Durga Prasanna Deb, also known as Vicky (35), was shot dead at point-blank range.
Soon after the murder, the police arrested seven people in the case, including former club president Pradyut Dhar Chowdhury, Sushmita Sarkar, Uma Sarkar, Birchakra Ghosh, Sani Saha, Sandip Kar and Rakesh Barman. Among them Birchakra Ghosh, Sandip Kar and Rakesh Barman were arrested in Kolkata.
On Thursday, Tripura Police arrested the prime accused Raju Barman in Guwahati and brought him back to Agartala this evening. "We have arrested the prime accused Raju Barman and brought him back to Agartala. After preliminary interrogation, we will produce him before the court seeking police remand for further interrogation," said a police officer.
Meanwhile Tripura Police have identified the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club's involvement in certain law and order issues according to District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar.
The West District Magistrate's statement follows an eviction notice served to the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club one of Tripura's largest social clubs.
Addressing the issue, Dr. Vishal Kumar stated that an inquiry report was requested from Tripura Police regarding the land status of the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club.
"Based on the inquiry, it was found that the land is designated as Khaas land. Additionally, there is a building structure present. In accordance with the law, a notice has been issued to remove the structure. If they fail to comply, the government will proceed with its removal. The police inquiry also uncovered incidents involving the Bharat Ratna Club. The total area in question is approximately 1 acre," he explained."
