Protest erupts in Tripura over arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh

AGARTALA:

The Forum of Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh in Agartala along with other organisations and body including the political leaders of Tripura has protested and condemned the incident of arrest of Hindu priest and ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh.

Addressing the recent arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and attacks on Hindu minorities, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, "Sanatan dharma is the bearer of justice and values. History has witnessed that all those who tried to harm sanatan dharma have been wiped out."

After the state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury and minister Sudhangshu Das, the former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday condemned the arrest of the Hindu priest and stated, “The ongoing attacks on Sanatani minorities, various religious institutions & Sanatani Gurus in Bangladesh are entirely undemocratic & an affront to basic human rights principles.”

“I strongly condemn such incidents, completely based on narrow and vested interests, where sanatani sentiments and human rights are violated. I urge an urgent and joint international action to stem this undemocratic and anti-humanitarian situation,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Forum for Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh on Wednesday approached the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala to condemn the incident and to present their demands through a memorandum, warning of potential mass protests.
