RAMP scheme launched in Tripura to support and grow MSMEs

To foster innovation and enhancement in industry standards, practices and provide the necessary technological inputs to the MSMEs to make them competitive and self reliant, enhancing exports, substituting imports, and promoting domestic manufacturing, the state industry and commerce minister Santana Chakma on Tuesday launched the World Bank assisted Government of India Scheme, Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP).

Addressing the event, the minister said that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) plays a key role in enhancing economy and encouraging self-reliance.

“Self-employed people should have a clear idea about the various schemes of the central and state governments,” she said, adding that the present government is always on the side of the workers, but they also have to move forward with effort and moderation.

Tripura is capable of developing industries based on rubber, food processing, bamboo etc. she said that about 98% of the industries in the state are registered in the list of micro, small and medium enterprises, she said.

The minister also launched an integrated awareness workshop and Yashaswini Abhiyan to create awareness about various central schemes for the development of micro, small and medium industries under this scheme.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the department Kiren Gitte said that MSMEs contribute 11 percent to the state's GDP. It should be increased in the future, he added.

He said that the RAMP scheme will continue for the next 3 years and through this, there is a target of making 3,200 model entrepreneurs in the state.
