In a resolute stand for their fundamental right to access safe drinking water residents of Shantipalli Colony, situated under the jurisdiction of East Kanchanbari Village Panchayat in Kumarghat blocked the Assam Agartala National Highway earlier today. This act of civil disobedience was prompted by their prolonged struggle with water scarcity.
Despite multiple appeals to higher authorities within the Commission their pleas for a solution to this pressing issue had gone unanswered leaving the community in a state of distress. The blockade brought traffic on the vital national highway to a standstill drawing attention to their plight.
Responding swiftly to the crisis, high-ranking officials rushed to the site upon receiving news of the road blockade. They engaged in constructive dialogue with the protestors and provided assurance that immediate steps would be taken to rectify the water supply situation.
Moved by this commitment the residents chose to withdraw the blockade trusting in the promises made by the officials. This demonstration of unity and determination highlights the urgency of addressing the long-standing water crisis faced by Shantipalli Leper Colony.
The community remains hopeful that the authorities will now take concrete measures to ensure a sustainable and reliable drinking water supply, thereby alleviating their persistent struggle for this basic necessity.
