The opposition CPI-M on Monday walked on a protest rally here at Agartala against the recent hike in power tariff by the TSECL and levying property tax ‘without’ assessment by the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The protest march was led by the former MP Sankar Prasad Dutta, former minister and senior party leader Pabitra Kar and others.
“The government has completely failed to clarify the recent power tariff hike and imposing a sudden property tax ahead of the festive season,” said senior party leader Pabitra Kar. He said that the government should immediately rollback the hike in power tariff and stays the decision of imposing sudden property tax until a property assessment is made.
On the other hand, the former MP Sankar Prasad Dutta blamed the government over the two separate decisions of power tariff hike and property tax and alleged, “The double-engine government has failed to meet the aspiration of the people of this state and has now put huge burden on them, which is unacceptable.”
