Indigenous leaders from the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) in Tripura strongly oppose the indefinite strike declared by a faction of the indigenous student body on February 12. They are urging the protestors to reconsider and enter into a constructive dialogue with the state government to address the matter.
The indigenous student bodies, along with various civil society organizations, have announced an indefinite national highway and railway blockade, seeking the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language starting from February 12.
After holding meeting with Cheif Minister Dr Manik Saha this evening, Parimal Debbarma, the President of Tripura BJP Janajati Morcha and former MLA, condemned the strike as undemocratic. "We have learned that Tipra Motha, the student organization's wing, has called for an indefinite national highway and railway blockade on February 12. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and BJP jointly held a meeting yesterday, discussing the issue with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik today to seek a resolution. The CM is well aware of this problem and is keen on preventing students from facing difficulties. During the last Assembly session, when the opposition raised the script issue, the Chief Minister responded that he had sent a letter to the chairperson of CBSE. We firmly believe that strikes or protests cannot provide a solution to this problem, and we implore those who have initiated the strike to engage in a dialogue, as it is the ultimate solution. This protest is fundamentally undemocratic. We urge them to come and discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and withdraw the strike," he emphasized.
