Rs 24000 Cr spend for expansion and development of National Highways in Tripura: MP Biplab Kumar Deb

AGARTALA:

MP for West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday chaired MP’s Road Safety Committee Meeting here at Agartala and reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed actionable steps to enhance road safety across the region.

During the meeting, MP Biplab Kumar deb said that the present government has spent Rs 24,000 Crore for the expansion and development of national highways in Tripura. He said, “Unscientific roads are largely responsible for road accidents. The current government is now working on a special plan to improve the quality of the road system by identifying the causes of road accidents.”

MP Biplab Kumar Deb said that district-wise committee meetings are held every three months. The main objective of this meeting is to discuss the formulation and implementation of specific plans on how to reduce road accidents, he added.

In the meeting, he said that it is not possible to avoid road accidents only by improving the road system, unless people themselves are aware of the accidents. People should follow the road safety rules and traffic rules. Measures should be taken to stop illegal parking. Public should be educated on various aspects of road safety, he said, adding that if people do not obey traffic rules, it is not possible for the government alone to avoid road accidents.
