The Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) program has commenced in Tripura under the initiative of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The Director of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department informed that students from classes 3 to 12 across all schools are participating in the program.
“Since its inception, the program has organized special events at multiple locations to assess physical fitness and sports performance. These events have been held at venues such as Arundhutinagar school grounds, Amtali school grounds and PVM school grounds. The focus has primarily been on athletics, football, kabaddi and other sports. Students from various schools across different regions are actively participating in these exercises and assessments,” said an official.
He further mentioned that the practices and evaluations under the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) program were temporarily suspended due to the recent floods.
“Now that the flood situation in the state has improved, the program has resumed and will continue until the second week of September. Currently, the program is being conducted in schools within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) under the West Tripura district. In the coming days, the program will expand to other parts of the state to facilitate the practice and evaluation of various sports. The Department of School Education, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the TTAADC authorities of the Government of Tripura are collaborating with SAI on this initiative to identify the potential sports talent in the state,” he added.
