Sanitation workers at Shantirbazar hospital strike over unpaid wages

AGARTALA:

Sanitation workers at Shantirbazar District Hospital have gone on strike, demanding the immediate release of their unpaid wages and a fair salary. These essential workers, responsible for maintaining the hospital's cleanliness and hygiene, have not received their salaries for the past three months.

One of the workers on strike revealed that their current monthly salary is Rs 11,000, but the contractor in charge of payments has consistently delayed salaries, offering various excuses. Despite repeated promises that the arrears would be cleared within a week, the workers are still waiting for their due payments.

"Many of us are struggling to meet basic expenses. We can't survive without our salaries," said one protesting worker.

The strike has led to a suspension of sanitation services, disrupting hospital operations and causing inconvenience to patients, staff, and visitors. The workers have made it clear that they will continue their protest until their demands are addressed.

Hospital authorities have acknowledged the strike and are reportedly in talks with the contractor to resolve the matter. In the meantime, patients and their families have expressed concern over the disruption, urging a quick resolution to restore essential services.
