Tripura is all set to go for the crucial bye-elections in two assembly constituencies of Dhanpur and Boxanagar on Tuesday amid tight security in Sonamura subdivision.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) are set to take on each other in a direct clash, while the main opposition party TIPRA Motha stayed away from contesting the polls.
BJP's Bindu Debnath is set to take on CPI (M)’s Kaushik Chanda for the Dhanpur seat, whereas Boxanagar constituency will see BJP's Tafajjul Hossain contesting against CPI(M) nominee Mizan Hossein.
According to the report, security arrangements have been tightened throughout the area of Sonamura subdivision, while the international borders with Bangladesh have been sealed in anticipation of the elections.
A total of 110 polling stations have been set up in different areas of both constituencies to ensure a smooth polling process, while over 95,000 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the by-elections. Special arrangements have also been made for elderly voters and service voters.
Drugs worth Rs 9 crore seized in Assam, two peddlers from Manipur arrested
The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Tuesday seized over 1.128 kg of heroin worth Rs nine crore and arrested two drug peddlers from Manipur, officials said.
