Tripura Police on Thursday arrested seven persons and seized a huge cache of contraband items worth Rs 2.50 lakh from different locations in the state.
According to police, they have arrested four persons along with brown sugar worth Rs 1.50 lakh.
“Based on a tip we have conducted a raid in a house in the Dhaleswar area in Agartala. The owner Bikas Chakraborty lives in Kolkata and some youths lived there as tenants. So we have received the information that the youth sells drugs. Based on this we carried out the raid and seized a huge cache of brown sugar, and other necessary items to sell this contraband”, said Sadar Sub-division Police Officer, Asish Dasgupta.
The arrested four youths were identified as Naresh Debbarma, Rohit Debbarma, Rahul Debbarma and Biku Debbarma.
“We have also seized huge number of cash, vehicles, and mobile phones. Interrogation is on process after registering a case”, he told reporters.
In AD Nagar Police arrested another person identified as Krishna Debnath and seized brown sugar and Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 lakh.
In Udaipur under Gomati district, based on secret information, a special team of Tripura Police from R K pur police station conducted a raid at the agriculture market in the Matabari area.
“A large quantity of brown sugar was recovered from an auto vehicle during raids there. The two accused persons who were arrested were identified as Utpal Das and Rupak Das”, police added.
