Seven Tripura Police and CRPF personnel, including an Additional Superintendent of Police and an Assistant Commandant sustained injuries during an attack by locals while returning after destroying a cannabis plantation this morning in the Panchabati area under Simna of West District.
Addressing the issue, West Tripura Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Uttam Banik, who was injured in the attack, mentioned that they went to a village this morning to eliminate a large-scale cannabis plantation.
"Although we successfully destroyed the cannabis plantation, upon our return the locals launched an unprovoked attack. They began pelting stones and bricks at us, vandalized our vehicles and injured seven individuals from Tripura Police and CRPF," he told reporters
Sources reported that when the security forces were returning, the local people held them captive and started pelting stones and bricks.
"The police and CRPF retaliated and conducted a mild lathi charge on the villagers. Approximately six to seven security personnel were injured and taken to the Katlamara Primary Health Center for treatment. The enraged crowd also broke the windows of three buses, including a Bolero vehicle belonging to the Tripura Police and CRPF," a source stated.
