A large section of the students of the indigenous community under the banner of Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), the student wing of TIPRA Motha on Wednesday marched on a mass deputation rally here at Agartala to press for their demand of Roman script for Kokborok language in all examinations.
The students who were suppose to sit for dharna in front of the Governor House as part of their mass deputation programme were restricted by the police here at Agartala Circuit House and imposed lathi charge on them, while many engaged to a scuffle with the police personnels. Several were injured in the scuffle. Police busted tear cell and used water canon to tackle the situation, which went worst.
The agitating students expressed concern over the role of the police and alleged that the male police personnel charged lathi on the female agitators. They also alleged that many were injured in the police lathi charge on the peaceful rally of the TISF and presently they are undergoing treatment at GBP Hospital.
They also threatened to launch a Civil Disobedience protest in the state protesting the attack on the peaceful rally.
