AGARTALA:

The Department of Industries and Commerce in Tripura is spearheading several initiatives aimed at empowering the state's youth and promoting industrial growth. During a press conference held today at the Secretariat's Press Conference Hall, Minister of Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma shared these updates.

A key development is the establishment of the 'Investment Promotion Agency of Tripura' (IPAT), with the Chief Minister serving as its chairman. IPAT's main goal is to attract foreign investors to set up industries in the state. The Secretary of the Department of Industry and Commerce acts as the Chief Executive Officer of this committee, ensuring smooth support for investors.

To market and showcase local products, the department is setting up the Pradhan Mantri Ekta Mall in Badharghat Mouja. Spanning 24,122 square meters, this mall will provide wider access to Tripura's products, connecting them within the state and across the country. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 150 crore.

On March 6, 2024, Delhi hosted the North Eastern Investment Summit, which encouraged both domestic and foreign investors to explore opportunities in the region. Tripura secured 14 investment agreements during the summit, potentially bringing in investments worth Rs 1861.51 crore. Additionally, a multi-sector Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is being developed in Sabroom to enhance export-import infrastructure for investors. The Tripura Industrial Development Corporation has completed site development, including the construction of boundary walls and gates.

As of June 30, 2024, the Udyam portal of the Department of Industry and Commerce has seen 59,182 registrations in the MSME sector. Furthermore, 49,951 artists and artisans from Tripura have registered on the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma portal, with 2,180 individuals receiving training across various skill levels and 1,180 trainees applying for bank loans.

The department is also actively supporting the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program and the Swalamban scheme by providing loans to unemployed youth. In the financial year 2024-25, 42 individuals received loans under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program, while 148-7 beneficiaries availed loans through the Swalamban scheme. Additionally, 2,770 self-help groups under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission received capital funding of Rs. 1028.42 lakhs, including investments in machinery. Moreover, 1,317 self-help group members have undergone skill enhancement training facilitated by the Department of Industries and Commerce.

These comprehensive efforts by the Department of Industries and Commerce are set to drive economic growth, foster entrepreneurship, and empower the youth of Tripura. Investors and stakeholders can look forward to a vibrant and dynamic business environment in the state.
